An Unusual Finale
At 11:17 a.m. Pacific Time, the WWDC 2026 keynote ended in an unexpected way: Erick the Architect, rapper and producer of the Flatbush Zombies collective, appeared for a brief musical performance with lyrics explicitly addressed to Apple developers. According to MacRumors' live blog, the song concluded with the words «thanks for developing these apps for me and all my friends».
The choice to close the event with a hip-hop artist — rather than the usual montage of app clips — reflects Apple's ongoing effort to turn the keynote into a more elaborate show, continuing the format that emerged with pre-recorded keynotes during the Covid era. Apple has included musical moments in its events before, but rarely has the closing number featured lyrics so explicitly aimed at the developer community.
The overall effect is ambivalent: on one hand it reinforces the sense of community Apple wants to convey to its more than 34 million registered developers; on the other, in a keynote already seen by parts of the tech press as heavy on AI and light on hardware surprises, the musical finale risks coming across as a well-packaged filler. MacRumors and Tom's Guide live blogs noted the moment without particular critical emphasis.
