Apple Intelligence launches with Italian and 15+ languages: the AI is not English-only

Unlike Siri AI — which launches in English only — Apple Intelligence arrives this fall supporting a broad set of languages including Italian, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.

Two speeds: Siri AI vs. Apple Intelligence

In the post-keynote debate about language availability, it is worth separating two things Apple tends to present as one. Siri AI — the new conversational assistant powered by Google Gemini — launches in English only, with other languages described generically as 'coming soon.' But Apple Intelligence, the layer of AI features integrated into the OS (photo editing, writing tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, contextual suggestions), has a much broader language footprint from day one.

As reported by Sportskeeda in its keynote recap, Apple Intelligence will be available at the fall launch in English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. For Italian users, this means most system AI features — from writing tools to intelligent search in Photos — will be accessible in their own language from day one, regardless of Siri AI restrictions.

The European knot remains

The distinction does not resolve the bigger problem: Siri AI will not be available on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act. It will, however, be available on macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. Apple Intelligence in the strict sense — features not tied to the Gemini-based assistant — is not subject to the same regulatory constraints, so it should arrive on European iPhones and iPads with the standard fall update.
