Less drift, more reliable data
Among the watchOS 27 fitness updates, Apple announced substantially improved accuracy for indoor run and walk tracking. According to TechRepublic, the motion-sensing system becomes far more reliable for indoor workouts, which are traditionally the hardest to measure accurately due to the absence of GPS.
This update sits alongside the already-announced Workout Buddy feature, which now provides motivation based on pace, distance, and workout duration. Together, they reflect Apple's investment in the quality of fitness data itself, not just post-workout analysis.
Both features work without a nearby iPhone, further positioning Apple Watch as an increasingly independent companion for gym-based or indoor training.
