The Google partnership
Craig Federighi stated on stage that Apple had undertaken "a deep collaboration with Google," leveraging the technology behind the Gemini family of AI models. As reported by Fox Business, the two companies worked together to create the next-generation Foundation Models powering Apple Intelligence features. Apple adapted these models to run both on-device and through its Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
The EU issue
The most significant implication for European users is that Siri AI will not be available on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 in the European Union at the autumn launch. Engadget reported Federighi's words, attributing the delay to the Digital Markets Act and the inability to reach an agreement with European regulators on solutions that preserve privacy and security. Siri AI will, however, be available in the EU on macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
For iPhone and iPad users in Europe — the majority of Apple users on the continent — this means the headline feature of WWDC 2026 may not arrive for months or potentially longer. This is not the first time: Apple Intelligence faced similar EU delays in previous cycles. The pattern repeats, and for now there is no timeline.
