The June 9 correction
The evening of the keynote, Apple's press release described the EU situation ambiguously. On June 9, Engadget reported that Apple updated the document to clarify the actual scope of the block: Siri AI will not be available at launch on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 — or watchOS 27, since watchOS 27's Siri AI implementation requires an iPhone running Siri AI. Without that, the watch is also left without the feature.
A broader block than anticipated
watchOS 27's exclusion from the list of systems with Siri AI in the EU was not clear at the end of the keynote, and the subsequent correction signals that Apple is still defining the precise contours of its European regulatory strategy. macOS Golden Gate and visionOS 27 are exempted, likely because of their different usage profiles and limited installed base. The core issue remains: Apple chooses to withhold the feature rather than comply with Digital Markets Act interoperability requirements. This stance has already generated regulatory tension and may evolve before the fall launch.
