Siri AI blocked in China too: the full picture of markets excluded at launch

At the launch of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Siri AI will not be available in either the European Union — due to the Digital Markets Act — or in China. On macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27, the European block does not apply.

Two blocks, two different reasons

The absence of Siri AI in the European Union on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 is already documented on this site. What merits a deeper look is the complete geographic distribution picture at launch. TechRadar, in its extensive post-keynote coverage, confirms that Siri AI will also not be available in China at launch, beyond the EU, on iPhone and iPad. The Chinese reasons do not coincide with the Digital Markets Act: this is a separate regulatory and censorship context that has historically imposed specific restrictions on Apple's AI and cloud services.

Apple's official DMA statement

For the European Union, Apple released an explicit statement: due to the Digital Markets Act, the company was unable to find solutions with European regulators that would allow bringing Siri AI to iOS and iPadOS while safely supporting other virtual assistants. TechRadar cites Apple's communication directly, identifying the months of failed negotiation as the direct cause of the block.

What remains accessible in Europe

The limitation only affects iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Engadget confirms that Siri AI will be available in the EU on macOS Golden Gate, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27 from the fall launch. European users with an Apple Silicon Mac, an Apple Vision Pro, or a compatible Apple Watch will therefore be able to access the new assistant, while iPhone and iPad users will need to wait for Apple and European regulators to reach an agreement.
