Siri AI in beta: downloadable, but with a waitlist for actual access

Developer betas of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 are available since keynote day, but Siri AI is behind a waitlist: the OS downloads fine, but the headline feature is not yet accessible to everyone.

Beta downloadable, Siri AI not immediate

On keynote day Apple released the first developer betas of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. Registered developers could download the software via Settings, but Tom's Guide flags a detail worth noting: Siri AI is behind a waitlist within the iPadOS 27 beta. The headline feature of the release — the one around which Apple built the entire keynote narrative — is not immediately activatable after installation.

Not unusual, but revealing

Apple already used a waitlist for Apple Intelligence during the initial launch phase in fall 2024. Applying it again during the developer beta phase suggests that server-side infrastructure is not yet scaled to handle the entire tester base simultaneously, or that the team wants a gradual rollout to gather feedback before fully opening access. Either way, developers wanting to test the new Siri experience in its most advanced capabilities will need to wait for enablement.

What works immediately

Other iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 features — the updated Liquid Glass design, performance improvements, Camera features, notification changes — are accessible normally from the first beta install. The waitlist applies specifically to Siri AI's advanced conversational capabilities, not the entire Apple Intelligence package.
