macOS Golden Gate: Mac mirroring in 5K and expanded touch support in Sidecar

macOS 27 Golden Gate brings Mac mirroring up to 5K resolution and adds expanded touch support in Sidecar, strengthening Mac-iPad integration in everyday workflows.

More pixels, more touch

Among the less-publicised additions in macOS 27 Golden Gate, two updates concern continuity between Apple devices. As documented in the WWDC 2026 keynote's 263-feature list analysed by iClarified, Mac mirroring — the feature for extending or replicating a Mac's screen to other devices — gains support for resolutions up to 5K. In parallel, Sidecar receives expanded touch support, broadening the tactile interactions available when an iPad is used as a Mac's secondary display.

Continuity context

Apple has built over the years a continuity system spanning Mac and iPad that includes Universal Control, Sidecar, and iPhone Mirroring. The 5K resolution in mirroring is relevant especially for users with high-resolution external displays who want to preserve visual fidelity during remote or presentation sessions. The expanded touch support in Sidecar, meanwhile, moves the iPad-as-second-screen experience closer to something genuinely fluid, in line with the touch optimisations macOS Golden Gate also brings to the potentially touchscreen-equipped MacBook.
