iPadOS 27: Visual Intelligence comes to screenshots and Siri AI enters Spotlight

On iPad, Visual Intelligence integrates directly into the screenshot workflow: capture a screen and AI analysis is immediately available. In parallel, Siri AI lands in Spotlight with the same depth of response and personal context awareness already seen on Mac.

The screenshot as AI entry point

Apple chose a different access point for Visual Intelligence on iPad compared to Mac. On macOS Golden Gate, the feature activates via a keyboard shortcut that lets users select any content on screen. On iPadOS 27, however, Digit.in reports that Visual Intelligence is integrated directly into the screenshot experience: the user captures the screen and can immediately invoke AI analysis on any element in the image. It's a choice suited to the iPad's touch interaction model, where keyboard shortcuts are less natural.

Siri AI in Spotlight: the same depth as Mac

Beyond Visual Intelligence, iPadOS 27 brings Siri AI to Spotlight, mirroring the approach introduced on macOS Golden Gate. Digit.in confirms that users can ask questions about files, search for information across apps and use natural language instructions to build automations through Shortcuts — all from the unified search interface.

Tbreak adds that eligible iPads will also gain access to the dedicated Siri app, with conversation history synced via iCloud. Hardware requirements remain the same as Apple Intelligence generally: iPad mini with A17 Pro chip, and all iPad models with M1 or later. A device count that, unlike the iPhone world, is effectively more restricted and could leave out many users with mid-range iPads.
