iOS 27: Live Activity for Precision Finding with friends in Find My

iOS 27 adds a dedicated Live Activity for Precision Finding with contacts in Find My, surfacing real-time distance to a shared person directly on the Lock Screen without reopening the app.

Find My beyond objects

Find My in iOS 27 receives a concrete update flagged in the keynote's 263-item list: a dedicated Live Activity for Precision Finding with people. Until now, the high-precision detection feature — based on Ultra Wideband — was only available for AirTags and required keeping the app open or launching it manually. With iOS 27, when searching for a contact in a crowded space (an airport, a festival, a market), the distance and direction appear as a Live Activity on the Dynamic Island or Lock Screen.

How it works in practice

The Live Activity activates automatically when both people have location sharing enabled and are within UWB detection range. The interface shows the estimated distance and, on Dynamic Island devices, an animated directional arrow. There is no need to keep the screen on or the app in the foreground.

The announcement was included in the 263-improvement mega-slide shown briefly during the June 8 keynote and covered in detail by iClarified. It is one of those features that doesn't get stage time but measurably changes the everyday experience for those who use Find My to coordinate with real people, not just to find lost objects.
