iOS 27: Find My lets you temporarily hide your location from specific contacts

The first iOS 27 developer beta introduces the ability to temporarily pause location sharing with selected people in Find My, without disabling it globally.

A gap filled

Until iOS 26, anyone wanting to stop sharing their location with a specific person in Find My had two options: disable global sharing or permanently stop sharing with that contact. The first iOS 27 developer beta, available since June 8, adds a third way: the ability to temporarily hide your location from individual contacts, without affecting the settings for others.

Why it matters

The use case is immediate: wanting to surprise someone who shares your location, or simply having a moment of privacy without having to explain or break an established sharing arrangement. Per-contact granularity transforms Find My from a binary tool into a more nuanced system. MacRumors identified the feature by digging into the first iOS 27 developer beta, released on the day of the keynote.
