A finally adaptable interface
After years of a fixed layout, the iOS 27 Camera app adopts a modular model: the top row of quick shortcuts becomes customizable, with controls — now called widgets — that can be freely repositioned. According to MacRumors, users select desired options from a transparent tray that slides up from the bottom, organized into categories such as basic, manual, and settings.
How it works in practice
The default layout remains unchanged for those who prefer not to adjust anything: flash, Live Photos, and Night Mode stay in their familiar spots. Those wanting manual exposure or quick access to photo styles can build their own toolbar. This is a long-awaited feature for serious mobile photographers, though the depth of integration compared to third-party solutions remains to be seen.
Visual Intelligence in the new layout
The Siri mode of the Camera — the primary access point to Visual Intelligence — is integrated into this new system, confirming that the redesign is not purely aesthetic but also addresses the need to surface new AI features without crowding the interface. Tom's Guide and MacRumors both reported this change as one of the concrete app updates.
