Three tools, different logics
Tom's Guide reports that iOS 27 introduces three AI-based editing functions in the Photos app: Extend, Enhance, and Reframe. The first two follow already established industry logic — the first generates visual content beyond the original frame edges, the second applies automatic quality optimizations. Reframe is the most technically interesting: it's designed to modify perspective in spatial photos viewed in 3D mode, a use case that makes most sense for Vision Pro users or the spatial format introduced with iPhone 15 Pro.
Competition with Google Photos
The three tools bring Apple's Photos app onto ground that Google Photos has occupied for years with comparable features. The difference Apple emphasizes — and which depends on on-device processing architecture — is that these operations happen without images leaving the device, except where cloud models are involved.
