Freeform gets collaborative folders in iPadOS and macOS 27

Freeform now supports collaborative folders, making it possible to organize shared boards and creative content together without relying on third-party tools.

Freeform and collaboration

Launched in 2022, Freeform was long appreciated as a shared digital whiteboard but limited in organizational structure: it was not possible to collect multiple boards in shared folders with the same team. With iPadOS and macOS 27, Apple introduces collaborative folders, allowing multiple users to access and organize a set of boards together within the same hierarchical structure.

Context and impact

For teams using Freeform as a brainstorming or visual planning tool, the absence of shared folders was a real obstacle: boards would accumulate without any sensible way to archive or share them in bulk. The new feature brings Freeform closer to the workflows of tools like Miro or FigJam, while remaining within the Apple ecosystem. The feature is included in the list of 263 functions announced at the WWDC keynote, as reported by iClarified.
