Apple Pay Express Transit lands in Dallas and Houston: no Face ID needed, tap and go

With iOS 27, Apple Pay Express Transit expands to Dallas and Houston, letting users pay local transit fares by simply tapping iPhone to a terminal, no unlock or Face ID required.

How Express Transit works

Apple Pay Express Transit is a special payment mode where a selected card — credit, debit, or a dedicated transit pass — is automatically authorised at transit gates without requiring device unlock or biometric authentication. The feature has been active for years in cities like New York, London, Tokyo, and select European metro systems.

The new cities: Dallas and Houston

With iOS 27, support expands to Dallas (DART system) and Houston (RideMETRO). In Houston, users add a virtual RideMETRO card to the Wallet app; in Dallas, any contactless credit or debit card can be used directly. The two additions extend the roster of supported US cities, reinforcing Apple's strategy of consolidating Wallet as a proximity payment hub for urban transit in the United States.
