Europe gets its Developer Center
During the WWDC 2026 Platforms State of the Union, Apple confirmed that its fifth Apple Developer Center will open in Berlin in fall 2026, as noted by the MacRumors Forums recap of the session. It will be the first physical center in Europe, in a city that has become one of the continent's most active technology hubs with a sizeable developer community.
What Developer Centers do
Developer Centers are physical spaces where developers can meet Apple experts, test their apps on real hardware, attend technical sessions, and receive direct support from platform teams. The existing centers in Cupertino, Shanghai, Singapore, and Bengaluru have demonstrated the value of the model for local communities. Berlin, with its startup scene and the presence of many European software companies, is a geographically logical choice.
A signal toward the European market
The announcement comes at a time when Apple faces significant regulatory pressure in the European Union — from the Digital Markets Act to restrictions on Siri AI in iOS and iPadOS. Opening a Developer Center in Germany does not resolve regulatory tensions, but signals a concrete investment in the relationship with European developers at a moment when that relationship needs more careful cultivation than usual.
