AirPods: first iOS 27 beta firmware brings Siri AI and new interface

Apple has released the first developer-only beta firmware for AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3, enabling the new AirPods interface and Siri AI support announced at the keynote.

Beta firmware available from June 9

Shortly after the WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple distributed the first beta firmware to developers for three AirPods models: AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3. The build number is 9A5292e, following the same scheme used for OS developer betas, and access requires enabling the beta option in AirPods settings when earbuds are connected to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

What changes functionally

In iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate, Apple introduces a new dedicated AirPods interface and adds support for the custom EQ announced at the keynote. On the AI front, AirPods become compatible with Siri AI: the new assistant can be invoked in conversational mode through the earbuds, without relying on the on-screen interface.

The beta mechanism

Since iOS 26, Apple allows beta firmware installation directly from the settings interface, removing the need for manual procedures. The production firmware will arrive in autumn alongside the public release of iOS 27. For non-developers, it is worth noting that firmware updates in the background and requires no active intervention: the final version will include everything currently being tested in beta.
